two-day hands-on training program on molecular modeling techniques in drug discovery

National College of Pharmacy recently hosted a two-day hands-on training program on molecular modeling techniques in drug discovery at its Seminar Hall on 24th and 25th of May, 2023. The program was coordinated by Ms. Rejitha K and Ms. Athira.B on behalf of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Balasubramaniam, Research Coordinator, KMCT Group, and welcomed by Dr. Akash Marathakam, Vice Principal of National College of Pharmacy. Delegates from various colleges attended the conference and hands-on session, which was led by the eminent personality, Dr. Abi TG, Associate Professor and research guide in Chemistry, Sacred Heart College, Thevara. The program aimed to provide post-graduate students from colleges offering a post-graduate degree in pharmaceutical chemistry with advanced knowledge and practical skills in molecular modeling, docking, and simulation. AutoDock, a powerful software tool widely used in the pharmaceutical industry for predicting the binding of small molecules to macromolecular targets, played a critical role in the drug discovery process. The two-day training program consisted of both theoretical and practical sessions. In the theoretical sessions, students learned the fundamental concepts of molecular modeling, docking, and simulation. In the practical sessions, they gained hands-on experience in using AutoDock to perform docking simulations and analyze the results. The training program was a success, with students expressing their satisfaction with the program and appreciating the efforts of National College of Pharmacy in organizing the event. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from the organizing committee, and it is hoped that the knowledge and skills gained from the program will help the students in their future careers in pharmaceutical chemistry. Dr.Sujith Varma.K felicitated the resource person.
